Finding Your Own Voice
This is the first article I’ve published and it’s a bit of a short one.
Schools back in session where I live and with that comes the awkward stage of the first three days. Thank God today was the third day. Anyways, before deciding to write this I was told a story from my soon to be English II International Bachelor’s teacher about when he was in college. The story was simply about this one time a teacher asked him to write a paper they hadn’t really discussed. Before they were sent to write the paper a student raised their hand and said:
How are we supposed to write the paper when you haven’t told us what to think?
I suppose the moral was to not let other people tell you how to write. Which hit me a certain way, I suppose. For a little while now I’ve wanted to do something that moves people through writing. I think with the way he told the story and the way in that moment he responded, I feel like I can. With this teacher I can meet that goal. I can use the voice I’ve found to change the world.
So, all of this to say, don’t let people tell you what to think or write… period!
